Wild Cats

This is a picture 'D' took at the Columbus Zoo. It's a Tiger. So I guess in some way I am related to him (or her). For the sake of sanity, I'll call the tiger a he.

Wow. He is big, isn't he? I'm just a small fry compaired to him. And he's wet. Not something I would like. I'm not big on water, but apparently Tigers do not mind the water at all.

No matter how much I would eat, I do not think I would ever grow that size.

Besides being 'cats', we have other things in common. We both like meat. We both play. And we both hunt. (Even though I never go outside - but if I did - I would be a fierce hunter!).

Now if a Tiger is a wild version of 'me', what would a wild version of a human look like? Does such a creature exists? And what is this 'BigFoot' thing I keep hearing about? Could this be the wild version of a human?

Well, I think the Tiger is a beautiful animal. Just wanted to share that.

Yarn!

I now have a new favorite toy (at least for now). It is called 'yarn'.

Now yarn is used for making sweaters, afghans, mittens, and other things.

To me it is a toy. What I love about a ball of yarn, is that it is easy to grab hold of. And I can bite it. (It does taste a little fuzzy).

I can roll it along the floor, toss it into the air, and have a grand old time with it.

What I don't like about the yarn, is that it grows smaller, and smaller, and smaller ... each time I play with it. You see, it begins to unwind itself, until there is nothing left but a tangled line of yarn. And believe me, it can get tangled around anything! Legs of chairs and tables especially!

And guess who has to untangle it when I am done playing with it. Well, guess who it isn't ..... ME.

I guess, yarn is like life. It's so much fun to tangle it up - but it's tedious to unravel it, and wind it all back up into a nice, perfect circle.

Cat Whisperer?

I think most humans have heard of the TV show called The Dog Whisperer, hosted by Cesar Millan. It's about a guy who trains dogs to behave.

Have you ever wondered why there is not a 'Cat Whisperer"?

I am not saying that dogs are not bright, they are in their own way. When a human talks to a dog in their 'cute animal voice', the dog wags its tale, slobbers, and is all happy go lucky.

When a human talks to a cat in their 'cute animal voice', the cat will usually sit and look at the human, thinking "now what a funny voice coming out of such a big body." Personally, I think humans sound rather silly, talking to me in that 'cute voice'. And sometimes it just grates on my nerves.

Well, back to this whisperer thing. Dogs are pack animals. So therefore, you can 'train' them to behave. All the human has to do is make it known to the dog, that the humans is the leader of the pack. That is basically what the 'Dog Whisperer Show' is about.

Cats are not pack animals. We are solitary beings. Of course in the wild, we may be in a small gathering, but not really a pack. It is bred into our system to be a solitary animal. So, when a human tried to train a cat, like one would train a dog, it doesn't work. It just annoys us, and makes the humans look stupid.

Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuum Cleaners! Ohhhh how I hate them.

I do understand their purpose (I am not a moron), but just because I understand - doesn't mean I like.

They are ugly number one. Number two they are noisy. Way too noisy to suit me. There is nothing worse than being awaken from a warm fuzzy nap, by the sound of that darn vacuum cleaner! It scares the you know what out of me when I'm napping.

I know that it cleans the carpets. I know that it sucks up all the dirt, and whatever else is on the floor. And I know that it sucks up all my pretty white fur that I shed.

But still!

You would think that someone would manufacture one with a muffler! Or a silencer.

I haven't figured out a way to disable the vacuum cleaner ..... yet. I stare at it at times, wondering how to ... disable it. And when I do - you can bet your boots that I will post that secret here!

Snack Foods.

I wonder why humans do not make snack foods for cats. And I am not talking about those tins or pouches of 'kitty treats' you find at the store. I mean SNACKS!

Humans have all kinds of snacks. All different textures and tastes. Our 'kitty treats' almost always have the same texture and taste.

As far as human snacks go.... I do have my favorite.

1. Doritos
2. Doughnuts
3. Popcorn
4. Ranch Dip
5. Ice cream

Now why don't humans make 'kitty treats' in those flavors? Hmmmmmm maybe someone should start a business. I know 'D&D' would buy me doritos flavored kitty treats.
Just a thought.

ABD

Well it was another boring day at the house. 'D&D' went to work and let me to my own devices. I had the whole house to myself - all three floors.

I napped in the dressing room for quite some time. I found a nice folded stack of clothing to make my nest on. I really didn't care if some of the clothing was black, it was comfortable. I'm sure I'll catch the dickens when they arrive home.

After I awoke, I wondered downstairs to nibble on some cat food. Dried of course. One of the chairs in the TV room looked really comfortable, so I decided to nap there for a bit.

I awoke later, stretched ... and found a kitty toy to bat around the floor for, I dunno, 10 minutes or so. I became bored with that.

Back up the stairs I went to the third floor (my favorite). I climbed onto the makeshift sofa and made my nest upon these orange and green fuzzy decorated pillows. I love them! So soft.

I awoke, and climbed upon the computer desk and found an ink pen. I knocked it on the floor and batted it about for a while. That was entertaining.

I then did my daily walkaround. Walking into each room and making sure nothing was out of place, and no strange scents were there.

I ate a little more, and decided to go back upstairs and nest upon the orange and green pillows again.

Then I heard 'D&D' coming in the back gate - so I raced downstairs to greet them.

That was my day. How was yours?

Tis Cold

Wow! Was it cold today. I heard 'D' telling the other 'D', that it was -10 (including the wind chill - whatever that is). All I know is - that it was cold! The floor seemed cold to me. And when they came home from work, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr the icy cold air made me sprint away from the door.

I am glad that I have fur. That keeps me warm. But on days like today, that doesn't seem enough.

So - I'll just say 'nevermind' about my previous blog about clothing.

Today, I do wish I had a sweater, or ear muffs, or mittens.

Cats and Clothing

A while back, 'D' was watching television, he started saying things like "Awwww how sweet" or "Isn't that cute." Of course, being a curious kitty, I looked to see what the fuss was about.

On the television were cats. Cats wearing clothes. Can you believe that??? Cats wearing clothing?
I could not believe my beautiful eyes! I even made that 'ha' sound one makes when they are having trouble believing what they are seeing. Of course 'D' thought I was meowing, and said something ridiculous like "oh, you think it's cute too."

Oh did I shoot him a look!

I would NEVER wear clothing! Ummm that's why they call it fur!

I have nothing against cats who wearing clothing. (A note to myself: Would this be considered cross-dressing?). It really isn't that cats doing. Humans put the clothes on the cats. It's all fine and well I guess - but I really don't understand it.

Of course I don't understand humans wearing dead animal pelts either - but that's a whole different blog.

Anyway - to each his or her own.

I just thought it was .... interesting.

I guess I am coming out of my shell and seeing more of this world.

Food.

Tonight when 'D&D' came home from work, I received my usual portion of cat food. The kind that is in the little pouches. It was of the seafood variety. I really do enjoy it. Don't know exactly what it was. Could have been salmon. Could have been tuna. Could have been shrimp. Who knows? It all looks and basically tastes the same.

'D' cooked dinner tonight for himself and 'D'. I jumped up onto the counter to watch.
He opened a box, took out 2 cans of something and dumped them into a corningware pan. Then he mixed some white powder and water, and made this sticky, gooy mess, that he spooned on top of whatever was in the cans.

It smelled wonderful.

Then 'D' popped it into the oven ("at 400 degrees for 30 minutes" he muttered to himself).

The oven alarm went off. And 'poof'. Dinner was done. Boy did my mouth water! It smelled sooooooooo good and yummy. I could smell chicken, and sauces and all kinds of wonderful scents.

But did I get any of this? Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Me oh my, it's so unfair. My dinner comes out of a little pouch (all cold to boot), while 'D&D' dine on freshly made, hot, yummy food.

Mmmmmm, if only I can figure out how to operate that huge white stove-thingy! I would cook me up a real meal - fit for a king!

Well ...... I shouldn't complain. After all 'D' did give me a bite of his pastry tonight.

No More Toys

Well .... my toys are gone! I'm not talking about those store bought kitty toys, but the toys that were hanging in the big tree in the entrance hall. What 'D&D' call the Christmas Tree.

I loved that tree. So green, so full of pretty lights and so full of TOYS! Those big red globes that I loved to bat around - gone. Oh the humanity!

Now what am I going to do all day long besides napping?

Once a year 'D&D' bring out this tree with all those toys on it. It doesn't stay very long. One day it is there - and the next thing I know - it's gone. I cannot understand why they do not leave it all year long - it gives me something to play with during the day.

Well, I only have about 10 more months to wait. And then - am I going to have some fun!!

Spring in January

It was such a nice day today. 'D' opened the back door, and opened the glass window on the door to allow the wind inside the house.

Man, was I in heaven. All those smells! And the air was so clean and fresh. I hopped upon the counter to look outside - at the bare trees and the dirty ground. The air was telling me it was spring, but the actual look of the outside still screamed winter.

And the birds! There were chirping and singing and acting all idiotic! And they were making me feel - I don't know - frisky! I wanted to run and jump and roll around on the ground. I wanted to chase them, and scare them, and laugh at them when they flew away.

Then I noticed the bugs! Bugs! In January! In Winter! Where did they come from?????

Didn't they freeze when the temps were down low? Were they hiding? Do bugs digs holes in the dirt and await warm weather?

I didn't care. I had spring fever - and I wanted to be able to sit on that counter and enjoy the breezes forever.

I know I will sleep well tonight. And I'll dream .... dream .... dream.

And yes! We do dream about chasing butterflies in a meadow. Just wanted to put that myth to rest.

Cold and Flu Season

I haven't written in my blog for a few days. Sorry about that. I have been taking care of 'D', who has had a very bad cold, or flu. It's difficult for me to tell the difference between some of these human ailments.

Being a cat, I act much differently when I do not feel well. 'D&D' hardly notice when I'm not feeling up to par. I usually keep to myself and sleep way more than usual. And I do not eat very much. And I do not like to be bothered.

Now when 'D' is feeling unwell, it's quite a sight to see. First, he doesn't comb his hair. After a few days .... you talk about a rat's nest!! A scary site to see! And he's grouchy! My or my! I've not seen or heard such a grouch! I'm surprised that the grouchiness doesn't get rid of the flu! I wouldn't want to be around such a grouch!

And 'D' doesn't talk very much at all. More like a grunt when the other 'D' asks him a question. I guess if I felt as awful as he looked, I would grunt too!

I do not like being in the same room with 'D' when he has the flu. All I hear is coughing, nose blowing, and a cuss word here and there.

I think humans could learn about illness from us cats. Do what we do. Sleep, sleep and sleep. It will pass in a few days.

Oh, and as a side note: those wadded balls of kleenix lying about ARE NOT cat toys! That I have learned from experience!

New Year Part II

Maybe I should go on a diet. Well, 'D' takes great pleasure in calling that little, bitty area that hangs down from my belly .... a purse. As if I'm going to carry a purse around with me. What in the heck would I need a purse for???
I guess calling it a 'purse', is 'D's way of telling me that perhaps I have gained a pound. He should talk! I'd say he's gained 10 pounds since I came to live in this house. Do I call his belly a purse???? No! I just match on it. I like it, it's nice and full and when I march on it, it bounces back.
Well ... now back to this diet thing. I do diet! I diet every time I go to sleep. I diet every time I take a nap.
Do they even make diet cat food? Sheesh! Cat food taste bad enough the way it is, I can only imagine what diet cat food would taste like. It would be like eating a diet chocolate bar. Take away the fat - you take away the taste.
Besides, I'm not fat - I'm fluffy - AND I have the fur to prove it.

New Year

It's 2008! A new year! Wheeeeeeeeeeee.

As you can see from my picture, I am all aflutter! I'm relaxing, that is what I'm doing. It is cold and snowy today! Purrfect time to nap and relax. Will I make a New Years Resolution?

Well, I guess I will try. I will resolve not to be so cute .

I am sure the New Year will bring treasures and surprises. And I will be purrfectly happy with just that!
